The pace of working life slows down over the summer as we take time to relax with family and friends. As we approach the midsummer break in the Nordics, it’s worth reflecting on the theme of sustainability and how it’s shaping the market.

Today Eleiko, a leader in premium weightlifting equipment, together with Ovako, a prominent steel manufacturer known for its high-quality clean steel, are excited to announce the strengthening of their historic partnership, which dates back to 1957. This collaboration is set to promote revolutionary low carbon footprint solutions in steel production and products.

It’s been five years since we collaborated with specialist software producer GWJ Technology to add our clean steel into their GearEngineer software. Since then, powertrain designers have been able to use the software to see how our 159X and 159Q clean and ultra-clean steels can increase the power density of transmission systems.

With the investment, Ovako modernizes the heavy bar mill of the Imatra site. This marks the largest investment in the Imatra mill in 30 years. As a result, the mill's production capacity will increase by 16,000 tons per year.

Ovako and FNsteel has signed a major partnership, starting in 2025, to enhance Europe's wire rod production with a focus on reducing carbon intensity, leveraging Ovako's advanced manufacturing at the Smedjebacken mill.
