What is spring steel?
Spring steel is a name given to a wide range of steels used in the manufacture of springs, prominently in automotive and industrial suspension applications. These steels are generally low-alloy manganese, medium-carbon steel or high-carbon steel with a very high yield strength. This allows objects made of spring steel to return to their original shape despite significant deflection or twisting. For springs that are exposed to fatigue loads, high demands are placed on surface finish and inner cleanness (limitation of amount of non-metallic inclusions).

Advantages of Spring Steel
The utilization of spring steel offers several advantages, making it a preferred choice for critical applications:
High Yield Strength: Spring steel exhibits excellent yield strength, allowing it to withstand high stress and loads without permanent deformation.
Fatigue Resistance: Its inherent resilience enables it to endure cyclic loading and repeated flexing without failure, ensuring longevity and reliability.
Cost-Effectiveness: Spring steel's durability and longevity translate to reduced maintenance costs and enhanced operational efficiency over its lifespan.
Wide Temperature Range: It retains its mechanical properties over a broad temperature range, making it suitable for applications in extreme environments.
Versatility: Spring steel can be fabricated into various shapes and sizes, offering design flexibility to meet specific performance requirements.
Tinsley Bridge x Ovako
